Purpose of Funding
The Education Funding agency is providing additional funding to each school to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. The funding is ring fenced and schools must spend it on improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of pupils so that they develop healthy lifestyles.
At St Cecilia’s we believe that physical education, experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is vital and unique in its contribution to a pupil’s physical and emotional development and health. Our physical education curriculum aims to inspire all pupils to gain lifelong motivation to succeed and excel in sport and other physically demanding activities. We provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and an active lifestyle. We provide opportunities to compete in sport and other activities that build character and help to embed values including discipline, teamwork, communication, endurance, ambition, fairness and respect.
Our school aims to promote an understanding of the many benefits of exercise, through a broad and balanced range of relevant activities. Pupils are encouraged to appreciate the importance of a healthy body, and begin to understand those factors that affect health and fitness.
Since receiving the funding many beneficial developments have taken place in our school to equip our pupils with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
The impact includes:
- Enhanced, inclusive curriculum provision
- More confident and skilled staff
- Enhanced quality of teaching and learning
- Improved pupil attitudes to PE and more positive attitudes to health and well-being
- Increased pupil participation
- Enhanced, extended, inclusive extracurricular activities
- Meaningful opportunities for school sport
