Year 5 Sutton & Cheam Cup semi final v Dorchester
A big game for the boys tonight and only their second one playing together as a school team.

It was a lively start to the game and Filip was quick to score our first goal. Opportunities for both teams continued and it was Filip again who found the back of the net to take us to a more comfortable 2-0. Sadly, this didn’t last long as Dorchester were awarded a penalty which finished the first half at 2-1.

The second half continued with chances for both teams and we badly wanted that third goal to feel a bit more comfortable. Filip went for his hat trick, which was disallowed for offside.

The minutes didn’t seem to be going down quick enough and you could feel the tension from both teams. With two minutes to go, Jack scored an almighty goal from just past the half way line that secured us the victory and a place in the final!!!
Outstanding play boys and fingers crossed that the trophy is coming home!!

January 2023 - Surrey League

This morning the St Cecilia's boys football team headed to the hallowed turf of Meadowbank Football ground in Dorking to compete against the 7 best teams in Surrey.  Having already been crowned champions of Sutton, the 10 Year 6s knew that there would be a big step up in opposition at today's tournament.

St Cecilia's got off to a flying start in their first game, with Josh netting 5 goals and Max scoring 2. Maxwell in midfield did a marvelous job of ensuring the ball was rarely near our goal, breaking town Holy Trinity's play. The first game, a resounding 7-1 win for St Cecilia's.

Our next game was against Warren Mead, an opposition we knew little about. From the whistle we could tell this was a level-up in standard. After both teams rattled each others crossbars, it was Warren Mead who got the late winner. Therefore, St Cecilia's needed a win in their final group game in order to progress to the semi-finals.

Our last group game got underway, and it was not a great start. St Cecilia's went 2-0 down early on. Would our team give up? No! St Cecilia's increased their intensity and scored 2 quick in response. Half-time came and went, and the second half proved to be more composed, as St Cecilias knocked in a few more to seal the win and qualification to the semis!

In the semi-final, we were against Ashley. With a few academy players in their team, this was going to be a high hurdle to get over. Unfortunately, the quality of Ashley just beat St Cecilias today, and Ashley would go on to easily win the final as well.

However, St Cecilia's can be immensely proud of ranking in the top 4 teams in Surrey!

Well done chaps, on to the next one, we are all incredibly proud of your performance today!

Dec 2022 Y6 Netball
On this very chilly Wednesday evening, our Year 6 Netballers braved the cold against All Saints Benhilton.  Despite being 4 players down and some players not playing in their usual position, they all played amazingly in both matches.  The first match we won 3-1 and the second match resulted in a draw 0-0.  A very big well done to them all!

And again, thank you to all the parents and carers for your ongoing support!

Dec 2022 Football

Well done to the boys who played in another thrilling match against local rivals , Cheam Common. With wintery conditions shortening the length of the match, the boys were keen to make the most of the time. St Cecilia’s had most possession in the first half but unfortunately could not get the goal. 0-0 half time.

In the second half, Cheam were on the attack and despite great defending we conceded the goal. However, not to be defeated, the boys battled on. With minutes remaining, Josh made a terrific run to get the equalizer. Final score 1-1.

Yet again the boys demonstrated great perseverance, communication and teamwork. They should all be very proud of their performance. Thank you to all the spectators who braved the chilly conditions to cheer the boys on.
